Cute bodysuits aren’t just for babies.
A bodysuit is becoming a new wardrobe basic for anyone who likes to ensure every item in their closet gets a good amount of wear. They also create a seamless, fitted finish that can make you look more polished and put together.
Recently while shopping at Target, I came across this white bodysuit. Simple, fitted, and comfortable, I couldn’t buy it fast enough. Plus, it has snaps at the bottom which is always a win.
Bodysuits are a criminally understocked area of my closet, and if you’re like me you might feel the same. You can easily layer them under your favorite tops, dresses, and blazers, or embrace them as the simple centerpiece to your outfit.
Since I’ve been sporting this bodysuit so much recently, I wanted to share a bit of outfit inspiration for how to wear a bodysuit. I also selected a few favorite styles from a handful of stores that will have you obsessed with bodysuits. Keep reading below for ways a bodysuit can elevate your style, and shop my favorite brands for bodysuits you can wear with comfort and ease.

Bodysuits create a more polished and seamless look when worn. The lack of bunching and tucking that comes from most tops keeps your outfit looking wrinkle-free and put together. This is especially helpful when pairing with items that can easily show unwanted bunching from a top.
Won’t Move or Budge
If you’re someone that is busy and moves around a large part of the day, a bodysuit can be your best friend. You can easily pair your bodysuit with anything in your closet and you won’t be tucking and re-tucking your top back into your bottoms.
A Basic You Can Wear and Re-Wear
The amazing thing about true wardrobe basics like a bodysuit is that you can easily mix and rewear it without any of your coworkers batting an eye. This is especially true for neutral basics.
What to Look for in a Bodysuit
When it comes to finding the right bodysuit for your closet, it’s important to consider a few lifestyle factors. All bodysuits are not created equal, and your needs will determine where your time and money are best spent.
Contour, Fitted, or Blouse Top
Contour: A contour bodysuit has a more seamless finish and may be designed to be worn under your clothes as a way give your midsection an overall cinched look. Depending on the design and intended use, you may be able to wear these as a top as well. The contour bodysuit gently smooths and disguises curves.
Fitted: A fitted bodysuit can be designed with a ribbed or relaxed fabric. The focus isn’t as much to flatter curves as with the contour bodysuit. Instead, the focus is on a seamless tucked-in finish and a fitted look.
Blouse Top: A blouse bodysuit is simply a bodysuit that is disguised as a blouse. Once worn with a pair of pants or a skirt, no one would even know it’s a bodysuit. This option is perfect if your job or daily life has you moving around often and untucked tops are an issue (or something you just don’t want to worry about).
Before snapping up a few bodysuits, consider how you plan to wear them. If these are standing in as a new basic for your closet, then neutral colors like gray, white, black, and tan may be a better choice. Not only do these colors pair well with most things, but coworkers are less likely to remember if you wore the same top earlier in the week. This is especially true for black.
I remember being self-conscious about my new capsule wardrobe, and a coworker walked by and said to me “You never wear the same outfit twice! I’ve never seen you in the same clothes.” It’s all those sneaky neutral basics!
Alternatively, there’s nothing wrong with a pop of color. The seamless look of a bodysuit can allow your reds, greens, or pinks to pop in a fearless way because they will always look clean and polished.
Best Places to Shop for a Bodysuit
While bodysuits vary in range of sizing and fits, this is a piece that you can add to your wardrobe to softly contour your body. It is also a fun basic you can wear throughout your week to mix up your usual uniform. Below I’ve listed my top three places to shop for bodysuits as well as my favorite selections. This should give you more ideas for how to wear a bodysuit and show you how many different options are available today.
Aritzia is one of the best places to shop for elevated basics. While the price points run from average to the higher end of the price spectrum, you can find a good selection of flattering bodysuits. They often have bodysuits on sale, but their prices run from $19.99 (sale) and $60.
Skims is the brand created by Kim Kardashian for for sophisticated shape wear. With bodysuits that look just as flattering sculpting your curves under your clothes, they also look good when worn alone.
Free People is one of my favorite places to look for flowy blouse bodysuits. While they have a good selection of simple and minimal bodysuit styles, they have more blouse bodysuits than anywhere else. You can find a fun selection of unique and bohemian bodysuits in a variety of cuts and patterns. I linked a few of their top-rated styles below.
