A basic tee is essential in most closets, and with a little know-how you can make your basics go a lot farther for you. Tying the perfect t-shirt knot may sound daunting if you’re someone who feels uncomfortable trying different things with your clothes, but this little DIY is so easy you will be using it on all of your favorite tees!
Since I lean toward the curvier side, having clothes that hit me right at my waist balance my curves and make me feel my best. I love this simple DIY because it allows you a more customizable fit so that you can feel more confident in clothes that flatter you.
Knowing how to transform basics in your closet make getting dressed a more fun and creative process.
I am a big fan of the t-shirt knot. Not only is it a fun casual change to an outfit, but it can make pieces in your closet feel more current and fitting. I often find myself playing with old tees to see if they could work for my current wardrobe with a little t-shirt knot – and they often do!
You also can wear this t-shirt knot in the back of your shirt tucked under (instead of showing the knot, like in these photos) as a way to make the front of your shirt look more fitted. I love the look of the cute knot as a focal point for my basic t-shirt, however I can think of several scenarios where wearing it in the back would be more flattering. It all depends on the look you’re going for!
Ways to Wear
- Over dresses and skirts
- With high-waisted jeans or shorts
- With yoga pants
Why this Method Works
- Won’t damage or stretch your shirt
- Customize the fit so it is always flattering
- The elastic ensures that the knot will stay all day
- Faster & easier than tying a straightforward knot

TA-DA! There you go, the perfect t-shirt knot that won’t stretch or ruin your shirt and will stay in place.
Have a great weekend!
