WOMAN IN WHITE

WOMAN IN WHITE

August 12, 2019

A little fun fact about me – white is my favorite color! Anytime I’m shopping, I’m always drawn to whites and that’s especially true in summer. My love for white is offset by my love for coffee, which I spill on myself almost every single time. I can proudly report that this dress made it through the day sans coffee stains (or stains of any kind!). It’s truly a proud day when I don’t get anything on my clothes.

I seriously have all the heart eyes with this dress! While the top is a delicate cotton with embroidery and eyelet details, the rest of the dress is an incredibly comfortable jersey material. I was especially grateful for the cinching at the waist because dresses like this can often feel shapeless and unflattering without those small details. The length is also ideal in the often-windy Maui weather so I don’t flash any innocent passersby.

SUMMER RUFFLES

SUMMER RUFFLES

July 19, 2019

Evan and I spent the better part of our weekend hanging out at the Maui Tropical Plantation – a beautiful stretch of palm trees, pineapples, and all the tropical vegetation you can imagine. We love stopping through here after spending a day running errands in Kahuluhi to remind ourselves how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful place and not get so distracted by tedious, everyday life. The view is one of my favorites on the island as it looks over the lush valleys between the mountains, and I think I might even prefer it over beach views!

I’ve been into fun ruffle details lately, and I’ve found that ruffles can often come off a little too uptight and feminine for everyday (or maybe just for me). The sleeve ruffles on this loveshackfancy dress are easy and comfortable, and the lightweight cotton material makes this dress ideal for hot days on Maui! I always love pairing fun dresses with beachy accessories, like the classic round bag from Bali and a pair of mule slides to match! Lately, I’m pretty no-fuss with my shoes and I prefer something easy, comfortable, and little effort required to put them on.

THE ONLY GREEN BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE YOU NEED

THE ONLY GREEN BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE YOU NEED

July 10, 2019

Some days I just don’t have time to think about and make a meal that I’m actually excited to eat and has a good source of plant based nutrients to fuel the rest of my day,  so smoothies are always my go-to to make sure I’m feeding my body what it needs AND still make it to work on time.  I’m not always in the mood to eat (especially if I have a lot going on), so this light smoothie makes sure I don’t go without and the volume of food will keep my stomach busy digesting all of the delicious fiber and nutrients this smoothie has to offer.

This smoothie is naturally sweetened with apple, banana, and lime, while being balanced with zucchini and spinach to create a light and sweet breakfast (or snack!) that will keep you full for hours.

The Only Green Breakfast Smoothie You Need - Too Polished

INGREDIENTS

3 Cups Spinach (raw)

1/2 Apple (I love jazz apples)

1/2 Banana

1/2 Zucchini

Juice from 1/2 a lime

1 Cup Coconut water

1 Cup water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place the liquids and spinach into a high speed blender and blend until you can no longer see large pieces of spinach.
  2. Add in apple, banana, and zucchini one at a time, blend until the consistency is smooth.

The Only Green Breakfast Smoothie You Need - Too Polished

This smoothie is packed with greens and gives you your entire daily servings of vitamins A, C, and K! Starting my day off with a super healthy smoothie really sets the tone for the rest of my day and ensures I reach for healthy options. It also gives me the discipline to turn down doughnuts in the office (which is a battle in and of itself).

And there you have it! My current favorite smoothie recipe. What is a smoothie combination you reach for frequently?

THE EASY ISLAND PACKING LIST

THE EASY ISLAND PACKING LIST

July 8, 2019

Living on Maui, my wardrobe has changed considerably (goodbye chunky sweaters!) but there is no lack of inspiration in my closet these days. Anything airy, light, and flowy is a must-have for keeping hot days at bay and making me feel stylish and comfortable.

I’ve been contemplating this list for a while now, and since we are celebrating 6 months (!!!) on Maui I thought I would share the essentials that I would pack for a trip to the Pacific. Hopefully this will help you plan for your summer getaway whether it’s a quick road trip, a blow up pool in your backyard, or a true island paradise.

I created this list around bright and fun colors incorporating rainbow themes, light fabrics for maximum summer coolness, and natural materials like cotton, straw, and the macrame rope.

The Island Packing List - Too Polished

TOPS

With tops, there’s no need to get super complicated. Keep it simple with some fun t-shirts that are perfect for throwing on for a quick lunch by the beach. Add in a tank top and a flowy blouse to scale your look up for fancier occasions.

Stripe Tee | Ice Cream Tee | Pink Shirt | Tank Top

DRESSES

For this list, I included just one flirty floral dress that can easily be thrown on after a day at the beach for a fun date night paired with sneakers, or dressed up with the platform espadrilles and a bold lip. I found this dress to be incredibly versatile, which is exactly what you need with a limited wardrobe!

Floral Mini Dress

BOTTOMS

For the bottoms, I went with the items that I’ve been wearing non-stop this summer. When you’re on vacation, you don’t want to have to think too much about your outfit, so I picked some basics that will go with virtually any top. High waisted denim shorts are perfect to wear over a bathing suit and on to lunch, or serve as a comfortable staple for exploring and museum-hopping. A simple structured white skirt still feels beachy but can easily dress up any top for an easy dinner staple. Comfy, wide leg pants are perfect for those cool, windy nights by the beach or a surefire way to stay comfortable on a sunset sail.

Denim Shorts | White Skirt | Wide Leg Pants

SWIMSUITS

The island packing list can’t be complete without a couple of fun bathing suits. I chose a classic black suit with a fun ruffle detail that makes the suit both flattering and feminine. The rainbow striped suit adds a little fun and looks fantastic in photos! I’ve been obsessed with high waisted cuts as they are extremely flattering on those of us that are blessed with curves in the lower regions!

Black One Piece | Bikini Bottoms | Bikini Top

ACTIVEWEAR

No packing list is complete without a little bit of activewear thrown in there! This look is from outdoor voices, and is perfect for hiking or the impromptu yoga session, so you are covered no matter what active challenges are thrown at you on vacation!

Sports Crop | Leggings

LAYERS

Since the summer is hot, you can save space on packing layers. I always bring some kind of light jacket with me, because even though it’s warm, summer nights can get a little chilly so I always pack one just in case! This denim jacket will pair perfectly with anything in your packing list.

ACCESSORIES

The great thing about packing light on clothing for a trip is that you can have some fun and variety with accessories! In this list, I included a small straw bag (one of my favorite go-tos this summer) which is easy to bring along to a quick dinner and hold all of the essentials. The larger macrame tote is easily incorporates a fun rope detail on the familiar beach bag, making it feel both new and familiar at the same time. The sun is brutal in the summer, so hats are essential to keep damaging rays off of your face. My favorite is this straw visor that is more secure than a beach hat, and provides more coverage than a regular baseball cap.

SHOES

An easy pair of sneakers that you can wear for light hikes or heavy walking days will be an essential. You will need a pair of “dirty” shoes that can easily go from beach to brunch without being completely ruined, and these Birkenstock’s are PERFECT for that! I’ve been seeing this pair everywhere, and they are made specifically to be waterproof and handle anything you throw at them this summer (the $40 price tag doesn’t hurt, either!). For nicer occasions, having a pair of espadrilles instantly elevates any look from street to island in a matter of seconds, and this pair is a bit of an investment but will definitely keep your feet stylish and elevated for summers to come.

SUMMER READY DIY COFFEE SCRUB

SUMMER READY DIY COFFEE SCRUB

May 5, 2019

Happy Sunday & Cinco de Mayo!

After moving to Maui, it didn’t take long for me to realize my chronically dry skin needed a little bit of TLC. With tanning, salt water, chlorine, and my daily slathering of coconut oil and lotion, I wasn’t seeing the improvements and texture that I love having in my skin. My skin would often look dull, and I realized that while the coconut oil helped keep my skin hydrated, I needed a little help getting rid of the excess dry skin. I knew I wanted a body scrub, but it was difficult for me to find one with ingredients that I really loved and that I was certain wouldn’t irritate my skin. As I started looking online, I was inspired to make my own with some extra coffee I had lying around. This way, I could be certain of all the ingredients, give myself another reason to enjoy coffee throughout the day,  and play around with ingredient ratios so that I have a more personalized scrub based on what my skin needs.

After using this scrub for a couple of months now I can really say it is a game changer! I am so obsessed with my skin after using it, I walk up to Evan asking him to feel random parts of my body (“Feel them! The backs of my arms are so soft!”).

Below is my list of ingredients and skin-loving properties of each so you can decide what you want to add to your own coffee scrub!

Summer Ready DIY Coffee Scrub - Too Polished

1 Cup Coffee Grounds (mine were ground for regular coffee right off the shelf)

1/4 Cup Coconut Oil

2 tbsp Honey

2 tbsp Cacao Powder

Coffee: reduces cellulite, antioxidants which produce calming effects, Vitamin B3 (which is thought to reduce the chances of skin cancer), reduces inflammation

Coconut Oil: antioxidant properties, absorbs deeply into your skin for better hydration, exfoliation

Brown Sugar: hydrating properties to keep skin moisturized, aids in exfoliation, gentler than salt

Honey: antibacterial, full of antioxidants, gives the skin a glow

Cacao Powder: full of antioxidants which help fight free radicals

TO MAKE:

Simply combine all ingredients in a bowl, make sure the coconut oil is melted so that incorporates well into the mixture. Store in a mason jar on a shelf in your bathroom and use 1-2 times per week to enjoy super soft and radiant skin!

TWO-PIECE SPRING LOOKS TO SWOON OVER

TWO-PIECE SPRING LOOKS TO SWOON OVER

April 22, 2019

I’ve never really been much for outfit sets, but after passing a smocked top and matching skirt set at Mahina (a local boutique here on Maui) I’ve started giving them a little more attention and MAN, are they everywhere! Combined with the launch Sincerely Jules’ collection at Billabong, it feels like I’ve been seeing two of everything lately.

Matching sets are a super simple way to look put together AF without spending precious minutes hemming and hawing over your wardrobe that might not quite feel like summer yet.
